We saw a sign pointing to "Pulaski" today. We wondered if we shouldn't have taken that last left turn. There is a town called "Pulaski" in Northern New York.
Obviously, there is also one in Tennessee.
Must be the town fathers all wanted to honor the General who fought in the Revolutionary War. He was from Poland, and had fought for his country's freedom, then was invited by Benjamin Franklin to come to the United States and help us. He rose quickly in the ranks, and was named a general and was called the Father of the US cavalry. Unfortunately, he was killed at the age of 34.
Oh, by the way, there is also a firefighting tool called a pulaski. It is unlikely that this was the reason for these towns' name.

Nigel
Well, he didn't tell us to stay on I-75 instead of taking I-71, so he's in trouble again. Then we finally get to the trck stop and guess what! They have no gas or diesel!! Well, actually they probably do, but they're in the middle of "testing". Never came upon that situation before. We're here for the night anyway, so all should be well. It just was a bit of a shock.
Sun is still shining and wind is still blowing. We see on TV weather station that they have a strong thundershower warning back home. Guess this is as good a place to be as any!

GPS
Did I mention that we have a GPS? That's an ultra-modern electronic device that takes the place of the old-fashioned map or atlas. I think it gets its directional information from satellites or the stars or maybe Homeland Security. Anyway, it talks to us. It came with a female voice, but I didn't want my husband obeying any other female, so we changed it to a male voice. It sounds somewhat British, so we named him Nigel. Since we don't know anyone by that name, we don't have to get emotionally involved. Anyway, Nigel usually takes us to the place we type in. But once in a while....well, like today. We were looking for a church to attend. Nigel took us down one street, then inexplicably had us turn right, then left, then left again. You guessed it. We were back on the original street. Well, hubby wasn't too impressed with that. We never did get to church, although we passed several. We couldn't find a church with a driveway and parking lot that would handle our vehicle and trailer. A wise man said that the most important thing about problems is placing the blame. So, it's all Nigel's fault that we didn't go to church today. GPS. Guessing Properly Sometimes.

Sunny, with some chance of Downpour
We started the day in Rochester, NY, with sunshine and a Cracker Barrel breakfast, thanks to long-time friend. After leaving, we gradually ran into clouds and, by the time we were leaving the state, we had rain. This, of course, was not good for our windshield wiper. It quit half way up or down. So I did my rescue, getting outside and pushing it until it worked again. The next shower we ran into, it worked ok, so I guess I have the magic touch. Did I mention this is the reason we are once again headed to delightful Red Bay, AL? We are taking the scenic route, through Ohio, trying to avoid flooding in GA. We'll see if it works.
Oh, by the way, we did plunge through a couple downpours before getting to Saybrook, OH, where we will reside until tomorrow morning. Nothing like rain on the roof to lull one to sleep!

Provisions....
Been squirreling away food in the motor home. It seems that my thoughts always turn first to food in "Being Prepared". Of course, I have to make sure we have clothing that will be appropriate, which is kind of difficult when I don't know the weather or the events we will be experiencing. My husband has to take care of all the other stuff...like possible repairs, storage, vehicle/system checks, money, and many other things I would never think of. As far as a route or planned stopovers or such....not going to happen! We have a couple likely stops, but no dates or times. Talk about "flying by the seat of your pants"! Hey, we're retired; we did our time with schedules and requirements. We travel about 200 miles a day and stop at a Walmart, a Flying J, or perhaps a campground. We meet lots of nice people and dogs...and we don't have to walk the dogs or feed the people. Looking forward to new adventures. Will report as email is available.

Vinegar
I had left two baby watermelons on the counter for too long.
They leaked. The leakage came off the counter and dripped down the cabinets and on to the floor....as one would expect, knowing about gravity and all.
The next problem was cleaning up the mess.
"No Problem", you say? That's what I said too. Until I tried it.
It seems that fermented watrmelon juice does not respond to plain water.
Or to "Swiffer Wet Jet".
Or to Dawn dish detergent.
I've been over a week walking through it and sticking to the floor, with the attendant noises.
Finally, it occurred to me to try vinegar. That's good for window washing.
So, I tried straight vinegar and VOILA!
The stick was gone!
I finished up the rest with vinegar and water, and it appears to have handled the situation.
PTL!
Really didn't want to leave my kitchen for the next month and a half, probably growing fuzzy things as a result of the watermelon poisoning.
All is well....and I can continue to pack the motor home. :-)

WIldlife
Coming home from church, we observed three deer in our backyard. It looked like a mother and her two kids. They were grazing and being vigilant...but they weren't scared of our new blue car. I guess it helps that they've lived here all their lives, although I do fear for them when hunting season begins.
When I went on the back porch, I saw a little sparrow sitting near the glass door. I presume he/she had flown into it, thinking it was another vista, and had had a rude awakening. It was dazed...sort of walked around in a circle. My husband took out a small bowl of water and put the bowl and the bird in a corner of the porch. Shortly, the bird was gone. He's a good EMT!
