P DAY

Tell the kids. The reason for this holiday week is that two of our country's presidents (maybe more; I'm not sure) were born in February.

In the past, they each had their own day. Now, in the interests of conformity and commercialism, we have a week of "SALES" and very little remembering WHO we're doing this for.

I recently read a biography of George Washington. How very wise he was, to reject the offer to be "king". And how brave he was, to lead an "army" of fellows for a country that didn't even exist. We Americans are blessed to be the recipients of his courage and perseverance.

Not to mention the faith and prescience of Abraham Lincoln, the other president we are honoring this week and this day. He knew our country couldn't preach equality if we continued promoting slavery. The Emancipation Proclamation was a very gutsy move...and he paid with his life.

Politics was just as raucous back then as it is now. I pray that our presidents' vision for the United States continues to be true. "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
